Detailed Itinerary
Nairobi to Maasai Mara
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or airport by a Vanta Tour and Safaris representative. After a brief briefing at our city office, you will depart for the Maasai Mara via the scenic Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where a photo stop is included. You will continue through Narok town before arriving at your lodge or camp in time for lunch. After checking in and resting briefly, you will head out for an afternoon game drive, giving you your first taste of the Mara's incredible wildlife. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Full Day in Maasai Mara
After an early breakfast, you will depart with a packed lunch for a full day of game driving across the vast plains of the Maasai Mara. You will search for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and if you are lucky, the rare black rhino. Around midday, you will enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Mara River, where you can watch hippos and crocodiles from a safe distance. During migration season from July to October, you may witness the dramatic river crossings of wildebeest and zebra. You will continue your game drive into the late afternoon before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, you will check out and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. You will travel via the Great Rift Valley escarpment, enjoying stunning views along the way. You will arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for lunch at your lodge or camp. In the afternoon, you will embark on a game drive around the lake, famous for its thousands of flamingos and pelicans. You will also have excellent chances to spot both black and white rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, and the rare tree-climbing lions that Nakuru is known for. You will return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha
You will enjoy an early morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, which is the best time to see rhinos and lions before the sun gets too hot. You will return to your lodge for a full breakfast, then check out. You will depart for Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, where you can see hippos up close and watch fish eagles diving for food. You will then visit Crescent Island for a unique walking safari among giraffes, zebras, waterbuck, and antelopes – all without a vehicle between you and the animals. You will then check into your lodge or camp on the shores of Lake Naivasha for dinner and overnight.
Lake Naivasha to Amboseli
After breakfast, you have the option to visit Hell's Gate National Park for an extra fee, where you can cycle or walk among zebras, giraffes, and antelopes without a vehicle, or simply relax at your lodge. If you choose Hell's Gate, you will enjoy a guided bike ride through the dramatic gorges and past geothermal steam vents. You will then have lunch at a local restaurant at your own expense. You will depart for Amboseli National Park in the early afternoon, traveling via Nairobi and along the Mombasa highway. You will arrive at Amboseli in time for a late afternoon game drive before checking into your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Full Day in Amboseli
You will wake up early for a sunrise game drive, which is the best time to photograph Mount Kilimanjaro's snow capped peak as the sun rises behind it. You will return to your lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, you will depart for another full day of game driving across Amboseli's swamps, plains, and woodlands. You will search for elephants, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. You will enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the park, overlooking the swamps where hippos and elephants gather. You will continue your game drive into the late afternoon before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Amboseli to Nairobi
You will enjoy one last early morning game drive in Amboseli, capturing final photographs of elephants with Kilimanjaro in the background. You will return to your lodge for a full breakfast, then check out. You will depart for Nairobi, arriving in the early afternoon. You will be dropped off at your city hotel or airport for your onward journey. Dinner and overnight in Nairobi are not included.
