Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

After an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park (approximately 2½ hours). Entering the park, you'll immediately notice the dramatic contrast between the Rift Valley escarpment and the shimmering alkaline lake below. Enjoy a game drive through the park's diverse landscapes—groundwater forest, open savannah, and acacia woodlands. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous tree-climbing lions, large herds of elephants, giraffes, and the spectacular flocks of flamingos along the lake's edge. You'll enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your afternoon drive. Later, head to your budget campsite or tented lodge near Mto wa Mbu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2

Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Start the day with a short morning game drive in Lake Manyara (or enjoy a leisurely breakfast), then depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes you up the winding Rift Valley escarpment with stunning panoramic views. Along the way, you'll pass through the Ngorongoro Crater Rim, where your first glimpse of the massive caldera below is truly unforgettable. Arrive at your budget campsite on the crater rim in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you can relax at the camp, enjoy the views, or take an optional guided walk to a nearby Maasai village to learn about their culture and traditions. Dinner and overnight at the crater rim camp.

Day 3

Morning Crater Rim Walk & Return to Arusha

Start your final day with a guided walk along the crater rim trail, offering spectacular views into the caldera below and the opportunity to spot some highland wildlife and birdlife. Alternatively, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the camp soaking in the last of the highland air. After packing up, you'll drive back to Arusha, arriving in the early afternoon for a hot lunch. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your budget safari adventure.
